Off the Map

14 Jul

I’m drawn to most things vintage. Lockers, tables, flags, posters, chalkboards–if it’s old I seem to like it. The idea of using maps in decor is nothing new but I’m especially drawn to the use of old school/teaching mapsĀ  in interior spaces.

From traditional frames to layers tacked to walls, here are a few great examples of maps well-used.

I, too, love maps as decoration. We just cleaned out my MIL’s house after she moved into a retirement home. We found scads of old maps from the 60s on up. You can bet I’m saving them! I don’t think they ever threw a map away :) I have so many ideas but am going to mull over them a while until I come up with a plan. or planS as the case may be. Woot!

I saw a white cabinet (glass doors) that was lined with old maps. The green/blue colors were washed out and perfectly subtle.

I took a printmaking class a few years ago and now I can’t stop thinking about printing on them.

I, like you, have see so many good uses/ideas for maps. Would love to hear what you decide to do with yours! Thanks for reading, Kim!

I think Shela-Lyn sent you a picture of our map find in Lincoln….it was amazing! I loved it so much that I just found one on ebay….not nearly as big, but great for framing. It is a colored map of Paul’s travels….can’t wait to get it!!
